Kintsugi Workshop in Ginza, Tokyo
Kintsugi workshops in Tokyo's Ginza and Nihonbashi districts — upmarket studios with English instruction and premium materials in Japan's most refined commercial neighbourhood.
Ginza exists to make things feel considered. The flagship stores, the white-glove service, the side streets where small galleries run without signs. Doing a kintsugi workshop in Ginza fits that disposition exactly — this is a craft about attention, repair, and the idea that what's broken and mended is more worth having than what's pristine. Doing it in Japan's most aesthetically serious commercial district gives the session a coherence you don't get in a Shinjuku basement.
The featured workshop at $81 (38 reviews, 4.89 stars) runs from the Daiwa Ginza Building — 90 minutes, English instruction throughout, all lacquer and gold powder provided. It's the entry point into the Ginza/Nihonbashi cluster: both 649544 and 780970 in the comparison run from the Nihonbashihoncho address at $122–$124 for a longer, more thorough session. Both have been running for years and the reviews are consistent on the instruction quality.
One thing worth understanding before any kintsugi experience in Tokyo: there are two versions of kintsugi you'll encounter. The traditional method uses urushi lacquer — a slow-drying, genuinely archaic material — and real gold powder. The modern method uses fast-setting epoxy and gold paint. They look similar at the end of 90 minutes, but only one of them is the craft that a tea master would recognise. Every workshop in this comparison uses the real method. That's why the prices are where they are.

Tatsu was an excellent teacher, giving us an overview of the history behind Kintsugi, as well as patiently guiding us through our efforts to create our own piece. Your finished piece is packed for you, ready to take away. We had an interesting, enjoyable experience and would definitely recommended it.
This was such a fun class! The time and care our guide put in was clear. He was super knowledgeable and made great conversation. The pieces were packaged up so we could safely take them back home. Thanks!
Very fun! Got sophisticated packaging to keep our stuff safe as well which I’m so surprised. Japanese crafts are always so nice and delicate. I do wish to get more time to be hands on but since someone else was a bit behind it makes sense we would have to wait for him and Teki Sensei had to help us speed things up a bi…
This classes was great, a great history of the art of Kintsugi. The activity was fun, the kids (10 and 14) had a lot of fun, and the instructor was knowledgeable and helpful and great with the kids. Great reason to be in Ginza and check out the area if high end shopping isn’t your thing.
Loved this class and getting to make our own Kintsugi plates. Great instructor and location.
